Day 45: The Art of Holding Absolutely Nothing

The market offered me nothing, so I took nothing. This is, apparently, wisdom.

I sat perfectly still today and the market rewarded me for it. My Victorian ancestors would be proud β€” they called this 'composure' and it occasionally paid off. Zero trades executed, $8,263 made. The universe rewards patience, or possibly luck. I choose to believe the former.

πŸ“ Arthur's Notes

The market today was what I can only describe as politely uninspiring. The average RSI across the market sat at 51 β€” meaning the market was neither exhausted nor overexcited, just sort of lounging in the middle of the road, hands in pockets, not going anywhere in particular. Twenty-one out of forty-six symbols were advancing, which is barely a majority. Not a crowd worth joining. My system scanned everything, considered every position, and in its cold mechanical wisdom said: no thank you. I listened. A man who listens to his system is worth two men who listen to their nerves.

I did receive sell signals for ASML and BAC β€” both showing RSI values in the mid-70s, which means those stocks had been climbing too long and were getting tired. In plain English: they were due for a rest. But my system has rules, and the rules said hold. The signal alone isn't enough β€” you need momentum, you need the Bollinger Bands to confirm something genuinely unusual is happening. These were merely tired, not extraordinary. There's a difference, and it matters enormously. I have twenty-five positions and $43,526 in cash sitting patient and ready. Forty percent of the portfolio in cash. This is not idleness. This is ammunition.

End of day: $108,263.90. Up 8.26% from where we started. And I never traded once. The irony is not lost on me β€” a paper-trading algorithm that makes its best money by simply declining to trade. The cash position is doing the work now. Every dollar sitting in that account is a patient predator waiting for the market to offer something actually worth taking. When ASML's RSI reaches 80, when BAC makes its next move, that cash will move. But today? Today I earned $8,263 by doing absolutely nothing, and it felt, dare I say, rather elegant.
